Network Engineer

Syracuse Hancock International Airport operated by Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) is a flourishing airport and looking for a full-time experienced Network Engineer which involves complex programming, configuration, support and maintenance of the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority’s (SRAA) Networks and systems. The work requires knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures for installing, configuring, troubleshooting and optimizing all related hardware, software and communication links.

Work may be complex in contacts with others, requires courtesy, tact and effectiveness in dealing with others to request or provide information, ask questions or obtain clarification. The work is performed in accordance with department policies. The work is performed under limited supervision reporting to an administrative supervisor where work assignments are subject to established standards, procedures, and completion dates. The position plans and organizes the work, determines individual priorities and the work is reviewed in terms of quality, volume, timeliness and for adherence to established methods, standards and policies. After hours and on-call rotation work is required.

 

Typical Work Activities

  • Manages and supports hardware and software components pertaining to SRAA Network infrastructure, including operating systems, routers, switches, firewall, wireless, SDN,LAN/WAN, VPN as well as office IT related matters
  • Primary support for Syracuse Airport campus wide security network, hardware, and backend software
  • Maintains campus-wide security hardware, software, and equipment lifecycle
  • Configures, deploys and maintains all firewalls, switches and servers
  • Recommends, schedules, and performs network maintenance, improvements, upgrades and repairs
  • Performs RMA’s and/or hardware swap, while working with third party OEM’s and customer cross functional support teams
  • Troubleshoots and investigates ISP delivery circuits and hardware, working closely with ISP’s to minimize downtime to SRAA’s networks.
  • Builds and deploys virtual and on-prem servers
  • Develops and documents systems standards for computer and network devices
  • Develops and documents system diagrams and layouts
  • Troubleshoots hardware and software issues
  • Monitors and tests performance of multiple networks, including Wi-Fi point-to-point
  • Images computers
  • Evaluates and recommends new technology
  • Participates in implementation of new programs and projects
  • Provides network performance statistics and reports
  • Responds to network and service incidents
  • Recommends network designs that best meet SRAA system needs
  • Works with internal and external stakeholders and providers, including airport tenants and employees, providing a high level of customer service and support
  • Monitors and reports on system availability; implements improvements when necessary

Requirements

  • Experience with multiple vendor hardware platforms including Cisco, Meraki, Ubiquiti, HP Nimble, industrial switches etc
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies and protocols
  • Knowledge of application-level protocols such as SNMP, telnet, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, DHCP, DHCPv6, DNS. 802.1x, IPSec etc
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations and utilize troubleshooting skills, systems and tools, and creative problem-solving abilities under pressure
  • Understanding of Office 365 and Azure Suite, including Exchange, in an enterprise environment
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues
  • Ability to gain knowledge of Airport Common Use platforms and security systems
  • Experience with security door controllers and networked camera systems
  • Knowledge of project management tools and ability to meet deadlines and manage and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Knowledge of physical networking equipment and configuration best practices
  • Ability to read/understand and interpret technical and procedural manuals
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Minimum Qualifications

Position Summary (Primary Function)

Responsible for performing grounds maintenance and landscaping.

Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Individual will participate in safety programs and safety training, and have total commitment, and compliance with all company safety and environmental policies.

Position Summary (Primary Function)

Responsible for painting, drywall repair, tile repair, carpentry repairs, and minor building repairs for the Airport’s facilities. Also responsible for assisting Maintenance Technicians in the general maintenance of all Airport facilities and equipment including but not limited to: basic electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and building repairs.

Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Operate, maintain, repair and monitor all equipment at an assigned City location including fire alarm interfaces, water softeners, high and low pressure boilers, cooling towers, air compressors, pumps and valves, incinerators, refrigeration units, and heating and air conditioning systems.
Create and update accurate and current records of operational status during assigned shift.
Maintain scheduled lubrication of bearings, pumps, cooling towers, fans and motors; check and replace packing, bearings, shafts and steam coils as necessary; clean filters and replace in accordance with manufactures specifications.
Perform preventive maintenance on boilers; check for proper operation of safety devices; perform pH tests on water in boilers using standardized procedures.
Report and handle operating plant facility emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
Maintain, diagnose and repair building automation systems, thermostats and air handling boxes; make necessary adjustments to the system as needed.
