Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and risk management is becoming increasingly important to North American airports and their stakeholders. To help our airport members manage the demands to produce and manage ESG data, ACI-NA hosted a group of industry leaders representing many facets of the airport industry – including environmental, sustainability, risk management, finance, and legal – who collaborated in the production of a white paper entitled Environmental, Social and Governance: An Introduction to Performance and Risk Management Metrics for North American Airports. The group worked diligently to make the proposed ESG factors and metrics appropriate across the broad range of interests. We are pleased to make the white paper available to the airport industry and its stakeholders.

There is a growing interest by financial markets to assess risk associated with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors impacting airports. The ACI-NA ESG Metrics and Reporting Task Group set out to help take control of the conversation by identifying the ESG factors and metrics that are truly relevant to understanding North American airport risks and achievements. It is the hope that an airport-focused ESG reporting framework can be widely adopted by airports and also used by financial stakeholders as they ask ESG-related questions of airports. Having a common set of metrics and expectations should result in more consistent ESG disclosures across the industry.
We owe a debt of gratitude to the Task Group members who freely gave so much of their time, knowledge, and expertise to this endeavor for the good of the North American airport industry.
