FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 24, 2014

WASHINGTON — Airports Council International-North America (ACI-NA) today revealed the 31 North American airports that submitted winning entries in the 2014 ACI-NA Excellence in Marketing and Communications Contest.  San Francisco International Airport is the recipient of the contest’s top honor, the Peggy G. Hereford Overall Award for Excellence.

“The results of the 2014 ACI-NA Excellence in Marketing and Communications Contest vividly illustrate the innovation and creativity needed in telling the important story of airports,” said ACI-NA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke. “From our large hubs to our small airports, the imagination and skill on display throughout all the entries of this year’s contest are testament to the commitment airports make to engaging and connecting with the communities that they connect to the rest of the world.”

This year, 56 airports and airport authorities submitted 287 entries in categories ranging from printed materials such as annual reports and newsletters, to broadcast advertising and social media campaigns, to public relations and community outreach initiatives.  Each of the 20 categories was judged by communications and marketing professionals from the U.S. and Canada.

The Peggy G. Hereford award is the contest’s top accolade, and it is regarded throughout the airport industry as the highest honor an airport can earn for marketing and communications excellence.  The award recognizes overall creativity in communicating the airport’s message, effectiveness in connecting with audiences, and the overall scope of the airport’s effort in marketing and public relations.

A founding member of the ACI-NA Marketing and Communications Committee, Peggy G. Hereford championed that the adventure and spirit of aviation imbue how airports told their stories to the world.  She served as the Public Affairs Director at Los Angeles International Airport, where she was the first woman to head the public relations department for a major U.S. airport, retiring in 1977.

San Francisco International Airport, the 2014 Peggy G. Hereford, placed in the following seven categories:

First Place: Creative Innovations – Technology
First Place: Websites
Second Place: Video and Film Productions
Third Place: Brochures
Third Place: Marketing Campaigns
Third Place: Mobile Websites and Apps
Third Place: Special Events
