The City and County of San Francisco is accepting applications for a Social Media Specialist to establish an eligible list to fill this position(s) throughout City Departments. San Francisco International Airport (SFO), an enterprise City department, has an opportunity for dynamic professional to join SFO’s External Affairs team. Our desired candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills; technical knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, metrics and tracking; project management and organization skills; technical knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud tools and FinalCutPro; experience using social media to communicate with the public; experience with content planning, management, and production on social media and websites; and can handle the pressure of meeting tight deadlines.

SFO’s Social Media Specialist will be instrumental in maintaining online marketing and communications strategies through social media which includes writing stories, producing videos and feature articles for social media; conducting interviews and preparing pieces for publication; and narrating, scheduling, producing content, posting, monitoring, responding, and reporting on all the Airport’s social media channels.

You are excited about this opportunity because you will:

  • Create and implement social media campaigns including content, contests, paid advertisement, promoted posts, and legal terms and conditions.
  • Assist in updating departmental social media strategies and policies.
  • Create content, as directed, for the Airport’s internal and external communications channels.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service and the Airport Integrated Operations Center (AIOC), as necessary, to respond to social media posts.
  • Review, research, and conduct benchmarking of the airports’ social media and web presence to identify best practices.
  • Edit marketing and communications collateral and content.
  • Attend department meetings and make presentations as required.
  • Take, edit, and produce digital photos, images, videos, GIFs and memes.
  • Organize, post, and track social media and web site content.
  • Take, edit, and transcribe video content.
  • Maintain a master content calendar and provide timely and accurate reports and analytics for communications content.
  • Assist in the execution of web based and social media campaigns, contests, and communications.
  • Gather, compile, and assist in the writing of annual reports, calendars, and other documents.
  • Assist in the creation and editing of presentations in a variety of formats.
  • Keep abreast of changes in social media functionality and content trends.
  • Monitor and respond to social media during emergencies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform other functions outlined in the 1312 Public Information Officer

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience in public affairs, public information, editorial, newspaper, magazine, radio, television, public relations social media, digital engagement, advertising, or similar work involving collection and dissemination of news and information wherein the preparation or direction of informational material for mass media on the development of public information program was a major part of the position.

Substitution:

1) Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of 2 years). Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year.

2) Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in public relations, journalism, mass communications or a closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
