Salary: The hiring salary for the Senior Construction Inspector is starting at $81,705. The full pay range for the Senior Construction Inspector is $69,883 – $111,733. Work performed on third shift is eligible for a shift differential.

About the Job:
The Airport Design & Construction Department is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced individual for the role of Senior Construction Inspector (Overnight Shift). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical, electrical, and civil inspections, along with proven expertise in reading and interpreting construction plans, ensuring code compliance, and documenting progress. The selected candidate’s strong communication skills are essential to effectively collaborate with key stakeholders, resolve issues proactively, and contribute to the overall success of each project.
What You’ll Do:
Project Oversight: Monitor and inspect a variety of facility construction projects and installations to ensure compliance with project documents, including major mechanical, electrical, civil, structural concrete and masonry, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, structural steel, piping systems, asphalt and concrete pavement, and other appurtenant materials used throughout Authority construction.
Contract Coordination: Serve as a liaison between the Authority and outside contractors on construction and improvement projects and tenant projects. Meet and confer with Authority staff and stakeholders regarding construction plans and specifications. Coordinate contractor activities with the Authority.
Records Management: Maintain project documentation through scheduled status reports, charts, and progress of contract schedules. Incorporate change-orders and create punch lists; perform preliminary review of assigned projects to identify potential problems and recommend alternative solutions. Attend pre-construction and in-house design review meetings.
Field Inspections: Perform necessary field inspections to monitor, evaluate, and document construction. Ensure conformance to construction specifications, drawings, and other contract requirements. Prepare daily inspector reports and periodic progress reports on construction and installation work.
Operational Driving: Driving throughout the SAN campus, including landside and airside EDR to conduct required field inspections.

Requirements
The Experience You Need to Have**:
Graduation from high school or G.E.D
Seven years of experience in facility construction inspection in the area(s) of specialization and advanced technical emphasis on civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and electronics/instrumentation principles and disciplines involved in complex facility construction.
An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-hour Construction Training Certificate Cal/OSHA 30-Hour Training for General Industry or must be obtained within six months of employment.
Preferred Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction management or related course work
Certifications as Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
Certified Professional Constructor (CPC)
International Code Council (ICC) Certification
Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements :
Maintain a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority’s vehicle insurance policy.
Successful completion of a fingerprint-based background investigation, training, and testing required for employment and operation and operation of Authority and San Diego County physical security, surveillance, radio and telecommunications equipment.

This role requires regular driving as a critical part of performing work-related duties, specifically involving the operation of Airport Authority vehicles. A valid California driver’s license is required, along with strict adherence to all traffic laws and safety regulations. Applicants must maintain an acceptable driving record to operate Authority vehicles. Compliance with Airport Authority vehicle use policies, including safety protocols and reporting requirements, is mandatory. Applicants must acknowledge that driving Airport Authority vehicles is an essential function of this role.
