Under general supervision, designs, plans, and tests response procedures to ensure the effective mobilization of protective, safety, and relief services for the Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) in emergencies or disasters. Ensure a high level of emergency preparedness across the airport’s spectrum of operational and business activities. Responsibilities require a high degree of knowledge and competency in airport operations, Incident Command System (ICS) operations, airport related emergency management, public safety, program development, and documentation; serves as the point of contact and liaison to Airport staff, local, state, county, and federal agencies, airlines, tenants, and non-governmental organizations in coordinating emergency efforts throughout the emergency management cycle; continually seeks out best practices and technology to improve response and recovery; and performs related duties as required.
Minimum and Preferred Requirements
Minimum requirements must be clearly demonstrated on the application to be considered; however, meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an invitation to compete further in the selection process. Experience requirements must be demonstrated in the “Work Experience” section of the application; other sections of the application will not be used to determine experience qualifications. (One year of work experience is the equivalent of 12 months of full-time work. “Full-time work” means at least 36 hours of work over a period of one week or 1,872 hours of work over a period of at least 12 months.) Qualifications noted as “desirable” or “preferred” are not included as part of the minimum requirements.
Experience
Three (3) years of professional emergency or disaster management/planning, progressive public safety experience, or experience in a related field is required.
Experience in an Airport, Airline, or Transportation environment is preferred.
Training
A bachelor’s degree in emergency management, aviation management, business administration, public administration, or a related field; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities is required.
License or Certificates
Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
Possession of a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge, which is approved through the Federal Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is required.
Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid C.P.R. Certificate is required.
State of California Emergency Management Specialist certificate is preferred.
Federal Emergency Management Agency – National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) Training is preferred.
Airport Security Coordinator (ASC) training is preferred.
Certified Member (C.M.) or Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) through the American Association of Airport Executives, or International Airport Professional (I.A.P.) through the Airport Council International designation is preferred.
