SUMMARY

An employee in this class is responsible for supporting the Operations division with scheduling, risk mitigation assessment, and assisting with training program implementation.  This employee will support the operations division and work closely with airport authorized representatives and stakeholder management personnel. Incumbents in this position report directly to the Director of Operations at the Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA). The Operations Safety Coordinator works closely with ONT staff as well as all respective contractors.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Important and essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Assist operations division with various duties of support including schedule organization, presentations, and regulatory documents.
Conducts safety assurance activities by analyzing operational data to evaluate the effectiveness of risk mitigation measures.
Develop charts, graphs, and interpretive summaries to support continuous safety performance monitoring.
Assists the team on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects.
Conducts data retrieval and prepares reports utilizing resources.
Proofreads and audits memos and reports for accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and regulations.
Compiles materials for meetings, prepares agendas, and attend such meetings to take summary notes as required.
May be assigned other duties for training purposes for airport operations, emergency management, ADA compliance and Safety Management System (SMS)
May assist with implementation of training programs for emergency management and SMS.
May assist with promoting emergency management and SMS by creating updates, and distributing informational material and training related to emergency management and SMS through safety bulletins, posters, training programs and other informational needs.
Assist in developing departmental procedures concerning Airport Rules and Regulations, Operational Policies and Evacuation Plans.
Coordinates, performs and oversees on-the-job training programs.
Assists in scheduling in-house training for group instruction, lectures, and meetings.
Supports a culture of safety and quality control; delivers measurable results.
Establishes and maintains effective communication and working relationships with airport and authorized representative employees, internal and external stakeholders, and the traveling public.
Does related work as required.
May occasionally be assigned to other duties for training purposes or to meet technological changes or emergencies.

PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Possesses subject matter experience and a track record of accomplishment in all or many of the disciplines outlined previously in this job description
Possesses strong written and oral communication skills
Possesses a working knowledge of basic office procedures
Possesses the ability to learn and understand database programs and risk mitigation
Possesses the ability to learn and understand ONT programs and operations; to understand, apply, and explain policies and procedural requirements; to read and review documents for accuracy
Ability to interpret applicable laws, codes, and regulations
Ability to plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines
Ability to demonstrate flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs; to use initiative and sound judgment within established procedural guidelines
Ability to interact effectively and courteously with employees, tenants, contractors, and the public in an international aviation environment
Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Ability to maintain confidentiality in handling all documentation and data
Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
Ability to handle high-profile incidents effectively, appropriately and tactfully
Ability to understand and apply complex policies and procedures fairly and consistently

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position.

Associates degree in a related field, or an equivalent level of education and experience is desirable.
Minimum of two (2) years in risk analysis or safety programs field is required.
Experience in Aviation preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and database programs.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATION

Ability to pass all background / reference checks, knowledge examinations, as well as aptitude tests necessary to obtain an OIAA employee badge at ONT

This position primarily operates in a professional climate-controlled office environment
Passenger airline terminals including operations areas not open to the public
Non-climate controlled aviation hangers and logistics facilities which may be subject to environmental contamination (dust, etc.)
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines

This is an at-will, non-exempt position. Only a valid and properly executed employment agreement may alter status as an at-will employee. Verbal contracts are not valid. The employment relationship may be terminated at the will of either party upon notice to the other. As an at-will employee, there would not be an established property interest in continued employment with OIAA.
