MKE Airport
JOB DESCRIPTION: Ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Administration and Transportation Security Administration regulations required to operate a commercial airport, Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE), and a general aviation airport, Lawrence J. Timmerman Airport (MWC). Maintain the efficient flow of passengers and traffic through MKE facilities and roadways, while completing daily airfield inspections at MWC and handling various forms of communication and information dissemination to personnel at MKE and MWC according to established procedures.
JOB DUTIES:
- Perform inspections of airport facilities and roadways and evaluate hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions, security issues, and compliance with the Airport’s policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Document and take appropriate corrective action to ensure compliance and prevent personal injury and/or damage to airport property. Provide on-the-job training for new employees.
- Monitor, operate, identify, analyze, and respond quickly to the following systems: Fire Alarm, Security, Camera, Paging, Radio, Weather, Surface System, and Flight Tracking.
- Respond quickly to airport emergencies, incidents, and accidents of various sizes, scopes, and scales as a second responder. Follow established emergency procedures and ensure compliance with 14 CFR Part 139 and 49 CFR Part 1542.
- Take appropriate actions to ensure the safe and efficient flow of passengers and traffic through the Domestic and International Terminals, Concourses, Roadways, and other facilities at MKE. Monitor and ensure that airport construction and maintenance projects do not adversely affect the safe and efficient operation of the airport.
- Monitor wildlife activity and movement of aircraft at Lawrence J. Timmerman Airport (MWC). Open and close airport movement areas as conditions warrant and respond to emergency situations until relieved. Confirm compliance with Federal, State, County, and Airport policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and ordinances to ensure safe and secure operations.
- Assist with customer needs. Answer phones, radios, and computer communication platforms. Disseminate information in an organized manner. Meet with various airport users and tenants to resolve routine operational problems and process routine requests and complaints. Provide escorts, facilitate tours, and act in an airport security capacity in the absence of Public Safety and Security personnel.
- Collect flight schedules from airlines and input them into a consolidated database. Create graphics upon request from Airport Management. Manage aircraft assignments for all flexible-use gates, hardstands, and parking locations. Ensure compliance with the Flexible-Use Resource policies and procedures. Monitor and troubleshoot AirIT gate and ticketing stations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- Must have a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license throughout employment with Milwaukee County.
- Candidates with any one of the following minimum qualifications will be considered:
- High School Diploma/GED and at least 2 (two) years of aviation experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, Business Administration, or Public Administration with no experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- AAAE Airport Certified Employee-Operations
Background Check:
- Must undergo a criminal history background check to maintain security clearance for unescorted access to secured areas of the airport.
Hourly Pay Range: $23.92 – $35.88
Working Conditions:
Physical Demands: standing, sitting, reaching, driving, visual, hearing, talking, and typing
Non-Physical Demands: communication/interpretation, sustained mental activity: auditing, problem solving, composing reports, reading, and writing.
Environmental Demands: high volume public contact, loud noises, and physical danger
Demands/Deadlines: cyclical work pressures or occasional exposure to distressed individuals within the immediate work environment; work requires frequent, substantive contact with people in highly stressful situations; the delicacy and unpredictability of these contacts routinely create considerable strain or heavy stress.
Work Schedule: considerable irregularity of hours due to frequent overtime, weekend, or shift rotation.
