Minimum Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree.  A minimum of six years of progressively responsible managerial experience in planning, organizing and directing complex and diversified concessions program and business development activities at a large-scale facility or airport is required.  Applicants qualifying for employment with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department will be subject to extensive security screening to include, but not limited to, fingerprint checks, employment verification, and other such procedures as may be mandated by federal law. The security clearance required by the federal law is a continuing condition of employment.

This position is highly responsible executive level work that directs the planning and direction of complex and diversified business and commercial development activities of MDAD by delivering excellent service to existing tenants, passengers and airlines, as well as, aggressively pursuing new customers. The Assistant Aviation Director is responsible for creating and implementing a marketing program to support the concession operations that are intended to generate revenue for MDAD, and provide quality products and services at market prices conveniently located and professionally designed to serve airport patrons and the traveling public.

This position is responsible for negotiating multi-million-dollar agreements and contracts for the department and creating commercial operations solicitations for new revenue opportunities. The Assistant Aviation Director works in planning and directing through subordinates, executives, managers, and supervisors, a complex airport business development program to include commercial operations, hospitality and transportation services. The Assistant Director will have oversight of approximately six million dollars operating budget and manages a divisional staff of approximately thirty-five employees. This position requires the incumbent to exercise extensive independent judgment and professional managerial knowledge in directing the concession operations at Miami International Airport (MIA). General direction is received from the Deputy Director of Administration and Business Development and Retention who holds the incumbent responsible for effective oversight in the professional management of the Concessions Business Development.
