The Position

Anticipated annual starting rate for the ideal candidate is between $75,472.00 – $90,566.00

This is a professional position in the Properties Department involving planning, organizing, coordinating and administering the insurance and risk management program for the Lee County Port Authority. The successful candidate will balance a workload of making decisions and recommendations relating to mitigating and/or transferring associated risks. Work will be performed under the general supervision of the department director and the candidate will be expected to keep the director apprised of the status and treatment of risks, losses and other matters pertaining to this role.

Key Responsibilities

Review and, with the assistance of insurance consultants and our broker, make recommendations concerning the Port Authority’s insurance and risk management program, including types of insurance and desired levels of coverage.
Gather and consolidate information from other Port Authority staff to review, complete, update and submit policy applications for renewal or replacement, as needed.
Work and coordinate with insurance consultants and brokers to procure, bind and renew the Port Authority’s insurance policies, as well as ensure all policies remain current and in force.
Develop and update insurance requirements for vendors, service providers, construction contractors, tenants, permittees and other entities the Port Authority does business with to ensure proper coverage and/or risk transfer.
Review and maintain insurance certificates provided by airport tenants, permittees, vendors and contractors; follow up for revisions and renewals; and, review policy endorsements to maximize counterparty compliance with the insurance requirements of the Port Authority’s contracts.
Review, track and maintain information on security deposits and performance guarantees held by the Port Authority, including letters of credit and performance bonds.
Investigate and refer claims or incidents likely to result in claims, against the Lee County Port Authority, to LCPA insurer(s); coordinate with our claim’s representatives and legal counsel, including gathering and assembly of materials for insurer’s initial investigations and for responses to discovery requests; and, maintain records of claims and related materials, as well as monitor processing of insurance claims to assist in adjudication or settlement.
Submit and pursue claims for the recovery of damages to Port Authority property from accidents or incidents due to third-party negligence.
Maintain the Port Authority’s compliance with legal requirements related to risk and safety, such as annual workers’ compensation reporting to the Division of Workers’ Compensation of the Florida DFS, and reporting of escalator and elevator accidents to the Bureau of Elevator Safety of the Florida DBPR’s Division of Hotels and Restaurants.
Coordinate between injured employees, management, Human Resources and LCPA’s workers’ compensation insurer, with respect to workers compensation claims.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in risk management, insurance, business, finance or related field
Experience in managing an organization’s insurance program, including risk assessment, risk mitigation, evaluation of insurance needs, insurance procurement, claims processing and claims management, is preferred.
Emergency Response/Recovery Activities: Lee County Port Authority personnel are designated by tier levels and may be called upon to assist with an emergency or unforeseen event at any time. Employees may be called to fulfill duties that are outside their normal scope of work to assist in resuming airport operations and flight activities.
