What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $ 106,577.00- 175,852.00. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $120,000 – $150,000. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location
The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.
The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field at least 3 day a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days.
What You’ll Do
Denver International Airport (DEN) is hiring a Senior Project Manager of Airside Design and Construction to join the Airside Engineering team of DEN’s Design, Engineering and Construction (DEC) Division. DEC is the primary Capital Project delivery arm for design and construction projects at DEN. The Airside Engineering team is responsible for implementing runway, taxiway, gate apron, DIW, airfield electrical, and stormwater/drainage projects within the Air Operations Area (AOA) at DEN.
Design Engineering and Construction (DEC) is approaching these projects with a renewed focus on constructing and rehabilitating civil infrastructure to ensure operational continuity, reliability, optimization, and efficiency. We are looking for an interdisciplinary project manager who brings a depth and breadth of technical proficiency; critical problem solving, communication and facilitation; financial acumen; stewardship; and an ability to invest in the success of the DEN Design Engineering and Construction (DEC) projects throughout their project life cycles.
This position is responsible for the definition, delivery (design and construction), and closeout of projects in accordance with DEC Project Life Cycle process and procedures. This position will report to the Airside Engineering Supervisor.
Design Engineering and Construction Senior Project Manager competencies include:
- Provides the knowledge, expertise, and overall support to the projects for future development, infrastructure, and overall design and construction needs at DEN.
- Consult with stakeholders to determine, establish, and execute project work plans and goals.
- Formulate and define scopes of work and objectives.
- Executes the processes, practices, and applications of design and construction project management and the principles, standards, requirements, and guidelines for plans review.
- Develop project time frames, funding limitations, contract costs, risk factors, resource requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of the projects.
- Confers with management to maintain established project plans and goals, scope of work, and project work plans including time frames, funding limitations, contract costs, risk factors, and allotment of available resources to various phases of a project. Trains in the formulation of budgets for projects including planning, design, regulatory, and construction phases.
- Reviews projects for code and standards compliance, monitors the progress and quality of a project, and resolves problems and project barriers by identifying strategies and approaches to overcome barriers.
- Prepares pre-bid materials defining scope of work and related information necessary for request for qualifications (RFQ),request for proposals (RFP), and construction Issued for Bid (IFB) and responding to questions concerning the project and/or contract(s).
- Prepares and communicates project status reports for key stakeholders and provides updates on project activities and information on risks and mitigation strategies.
- Meets with contract and consultant personnel, internal and external project stakeholders, and other city staff to resolve problems and concerns and answer questions on non-controversial issues/projects. Interacts with utility companies, city agencies/departments, and other governmental agencies to obtain necessary permits and clearances and to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Manages schedules, work plans, and cost estimates/projections and monitors projects for conformance to approved plans and contract specifications. Prepares and communicates project status reports for key stakeholders and provides updates on project activities and information on risks and mitigation strategies.
- Monitors the budget for project planning, design, regulatory, and/or construction phases and ensures project deliverables stay on-time, on-target, and on-budget. Field inspections of projects for conformance to approved plans, and conflict resolution.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Creating, analyzing, and maintaining project schedules and budgets.
- Write Scopes of Work and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and managing design, construction, and professional services contract agreements.
- Utilize various project delivery methods.
- Planning, defining, and measuring project performance through reporting
- Project management through construction.
- Proactively identifying, prioritizing, and mitigating project risks. Understanding and applying emotional intelligence to your work environment. Identifies and implements innovations to improve project and team performance.

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience: (Example below)
- Five (5) or more years of engineering, and/or construction management experience and a demonstrated history of aviation projects or infrastructure projects within critical operations facilities similar to DEN.
- Highly desired Civil Engineering, Construction Management degree.
Experience with stakeholder engagement and coordination related to the development and management of infrastructure projects design and construction efforts. - Experience communicating and partnering with a diverse group of individuals
- Experience in the engineering, and/or construction management industries
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
- Strong education and/or experience backgrounds.
- A drive and passion for delivering high-quality, creative, and technically sound solutions to unique problems.
- Handle several projects simultaneously.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Three (3) years of professional project management experience in the related occupational group including planning, managing, and scheduling projects and preparing and reviewing contract documents.
- Education and Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of posthigh school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
- Licensure & Certification- valid Driver’s License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
