What We Offer 

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $98,682.00- $162,826.00.  New hires are typically brought into the organization between $100,000 – $150,000.  We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to work a minimum of 3 days per week on-site.  Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

What You’ll Do 

The Culture & Strategy Division is currently seeking an influential and passionate leader to join the team as the Manager of Employee Engagement Programs.  As part of the DEN Chief of Staff portfolio, the Culture & Strategy Division is responsible for leading DEN’s efforts in the following areas impacting the entire organization, including our stakeholders: (1) Strategy & Innovation; (2) Airport Access & Business Opportunity; and (3) Strategic Outreach & Engagement.   The Manager of Employee Engagement Programs will drive a positive workplace culture by ensuring employee well-being, fostering an inclusive environment, and enhancing employee satisfaction through effective programs, strategic planning, and continuous improvement efforts.

Core job duties include but are not limited to:

Leadership and Organizational Development:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to growth as a leader by proactively seeking and implementing feedback, coaching and self-identified improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and align performance-based goals through research, evaluation and review, including data, performance measurements, and provide updates based on monthly performance management progress checkpoints.
  • Manage staff which includes but is not limited to interviewing, hiring, assigning work, training, coaching, and counseling to ensure consistent application of employee guidelines, processes and procedures. Conduct performance reviews and hold employees accountable for the performance of their positions.
  • Lead the Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI) Team and the Employee Engagement Committee (EEC), both of which are comprised of employee volunteers, to develop and implement meaningful initiatives aiming to improve workplace culture across the organization.  This includes defining and implementing standard operating procedures and practices to guide the work of these two teams.
  • Establish and implement policies and procedures for the employee wellness program at DEN, including in the operation of a 24/7 wellness facility with over 1500 active memberships from DEN, airline, concessions, and other staff that are part of the DEN community.  Work directly with airline, concessions, and other partners to establish organization level participation in the wellness center.  Develop and implement programming spanning four pillars of wellness: Physical, Mental, Professional and Financial.
  • Develop, manage, and recommend annual budget by analyzing past expenditures and projecting future needs.
  • Track expenditures to ensure compliance with fiscal guidelines.
  • Strengthen strategies and tactics to ensure cross-promotion and integration of all Culture & Strategy functions are developed and delivered and achieving optimum impacts.
  • Ensure internal and external communications and websites accurately represent services and programs in alignment with our organizational values.

Learning & Development:

  • Lead team members in the design of learning and development strategies in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive development initiatives and coach leaders (including executives) across the enterprise to instill EDI, Engagement and Wellness values throughout the organization.

Data & Evaluation:

  • Gather feedback to assess employee satisfaction and identify areas for enhancement.
    Stay current with best practices and industry trends to help inform and improve upon organization efforts and initiatives.
  • Evaluate practices, policies and procedures utilizing an equity lens identify areas of improvement on the impacts of inequitable policies.
  • Lead intra-agency coordination across the City & County of Denver in support of key equity initiatives and equity platform elements and identify actions necessary to enhance and continue building DEN’s commitment to these city-wide efforts.

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Three years of experience leading strategic EDI, Employee Engagement and/or Wellness programming efforts and goal setting across the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying, promoting and implementing best practices.
  • Advanced demonstrated leadership and proven success in coaching and inspiring staff, including proactively seeking feedback and identifying opportunities for growth as a leader and throughout the team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of change management principles as a facet of strong employee engagement efforts.
  • Experience developing annual work plans, performance management (assessing outcomes) and measuring against budget and contract management aspects.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field based on a specific position(s).
  • Experience: Three (3) years of experience at the type and level of functional or operational management, which must have included management of professional individual contributors.
  • Education and Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
