Overview

The Senior Airport Operations Officer oversees, inspects, and evaluates airport operations both land side and airside to ensure safety, security, and to achieve compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. Assists emergency services and coordinates responses.

Essential Functions

1 Conducts and performs daily inspections of the runway/taxiway environment to ensure compliance with FAA standards regarding pavement, lighting, markings, and signage; coordinates with the Air Traffic Control Tower, observes wildlife, respond to bird strikes and recover/identify remains, and submits incident reports; inspects gates, fences, and other security devices for safety.

2 Inspects airport for compliance with FAA regulations pertaining to federal standards and requirements to
ensure the operational readiness of the airport; conducts daily inspections of the airport perimeter fence and gates; issues, modifies, and rescinds gate access codes and credentials in the access control system; responds to
suspicious persons and coordinates with DPD; issues trespass warnings when warranted.

3 Assists, supports, and helps airlines with various requests, fuel or lavatory spill calls, custodial spills, and appropriate reporting methods for incidents; provides direction and information on regulations regarding environmental spills and other issues; effectively uses communications software and systems to send messages to personnel and handle personnel or patron situations.

4 Keeps, maintains, and tracks records for all communications and incidents; ensure all situations are documented and reported to ensure proper and safe handling and resolution; provides senior level account of incident and emergency response measures.

5 Ensures construction activities conform to FAA airfield requirements; escorts construction personnel to the airfield as needed; identifies any discrepancies between installed pavement, lighting, signage, etc., and FAA requirements; monitors accounting and other funds, keeps accurate records, and reports data.

6 Oversees, coordinates, and executes event planning for special events, airshows, outreach events and special meetings; opens and secures gates and fences.

7 Responds effectively to alerts and emergency situations; uses communications software to ensure all necessary parties and agencies are notified; effectively coordinates communications and information sharing to mitigate the effect of a situation on airport operations.

8 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

 

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of airport regulations and general business management.

2 Knowledge or airside movement and traffic, logistics, and coordination.

3 Knowledge of customer service care practices and principles.

4 Knowledge of airport policies, procedures, and detailed terminal layout.

5 Ability to communicate with various individuals from diverse backgrounds.

6 Knowledge of airport, airlines, and resources.

7 Ability to lead, train, and develop other officers supporting airport operations.

8 Ability to use various communications and information management software.

9 Communicating effectively orally and in writing.

10 Establishing and maintaining strong and effective relationships.

11 Ability to handle and communicate emergency situations with professionalism and skill.

 

EDUCATION: 

  • High school diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

  • Four (4) years of experience in aviation, airport operations, airport inspections or airport/airline security.

EQUIVALENCIES:  

  • A current pilot license plus two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • Associate degree in any field plus two (2) years of the required experience will meet the education and experience requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in any field will meet the education and experience requirements.

LICENSE:

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must pass Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check.
  • Availability to work varying shifts (days, evenings, nights) including weekends, holidays.
  • May be subject to twenty-four/seven (24/7) emergency call outs.
