Job Summary
Under general direction, is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and managing programs in the administration and operations of airport facilities, grounds and equipment. Overseeing and managing activities that ensure and enforce compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.

Essential Job Functions

  •  Manages and responds to major airport landside emergencies on a 24-hour basis and makes critical decisions during airport emergencies regarding the operation and usage of landside facilities for emergency response.
  • Implements, promotes, and ensures the integrity of airport safety initiatives and training programs as part of the San Antonio International Airport Safety Management System (SMS) Program.
  • Ensures the standardization, efficiency, and effectiveness of all policies, procedures, and practices pertaining to the Airport Operations Section.
  • Ensures tenant compliance with Airport Rules and Regulations and other applicable safety standards.
  • Manages safety standards compliance regarding terminal/landside construction and the continued safe operation around the construction equipment and personnel.
  • Ensures the professional development and training of all Airport Landside Operations staff.
  • Coordinates complex projects with multiple entities to ensure the continued safe operation of the airport.
  • Coordinates procurement of assets for use in the Operations Section and for landside safety initiatives.
  • Enhances the productivity of Landside Operations staff.
  • Prepares and submits reports to the Assistant Aviation Director of Operations and Facilities Management concerning Airport operational matters as required.
  • Prepares operating and capital budgets for the Landside Operations Section.
  • Recommends landside improvement projects for consideration by the Executive Team.
  • Accountable for compliance with FAR Part 139 to assure retention of the Airport Operating Certificate.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of experience in airport operations at a medium or large hub airport, including specific experience in dealing with Federal Aviation Regulations 77 and 139.
  • Valid Class ‘C’ Texas Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • C.M. or A.A.E. from the American Association of Airport Executives.
