About ACI-NA:

Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) is an aviation trade association based in downtown Washington, D.C.  We represent the local, regional, and state governing bodies that own and operate commercial airports in the United States and Canada, as well as aviation-related businesses that provide goods and services to airports.

Position Overview:

The Manager, Communications is chiefly responsible for communicating ACI-NA positions to the media and the traveling public and assisting the Government Affairs and Public Policy Departments with positioning ACI-NA to advance airport priorities before policy makers and non-aviation stakeholders.  Duties include composing talking points and media messaging, developing, and executing social media advocacy campaigns, developing communications channels, and expanding ACI-NA’s public relations reach.  The Manager, Communications, is also responsible for supporting the ACI-NA Media Relations Working Group.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work in tandem with ACI-NA’s communications agency to support policy and industry priorities.
  • Monitor news and social media and keep staff informed of latest developments on airport priorities.
  • Assist in the development, coordination, and distribution of member facing communications and alerts, including a weekly member newsletter recapping association activities.
  • Research and compose talking points, media messages, fact sheets, and other collateral pieces.
  • Write and distribute press releases, statements, and media advisories.
  • Pen and place opinion pieces, columns, blog posts, web content, and other articles for external and internal media outlets.
  • Grow and maintain media contacts; build relationships with key reporters.
  • Proactively pitch story ideas and ACI-NA positions to media; respond to media inquiries.
  • Arrange and monitor media interviews with ACI-NA experts.
  • Compose speeches, remarks, and presentations for executive staff.
  • Manage on-site media relations and event production at high-visibility ACI-NA events and conferences.
  • Develop and execute advocacy-related social media campaigns; map and expand ACI-NA’s sphere of influence on social media; analyze and report social media metrics; collaborate with the marketing manager to integrate other priority messages.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have three to five years of experience, be self-motivated, have strong writing and editing skills, and enjoy being part of a dedicated team.  Experience in transportation or an advocacy-related media relations position a plus.  Candidates must be familiar with working with an external communications agency.  Candidates must demonstrate sound judgment, maintain strong work ethic, and be able to work without close supervision. Candidates should have a background in communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing. Graphic design skills encouraged but not required.

Hybrid Work:

ACI-NA operates in a hybrid work model.  We work in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and every other Monday. The team works remotely every other Monday, Thursdays and Fridays.

Salary, Benefits, and Perks:

The annual salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000.  ACI-NA provides a full range of benefits, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance.  Tuition assistance is able available for qualified education/professional development opportunities.
