Salary: The hiring salary for Security & Public Safety Analyst I is starting at $75,553 annually. The full pay range for Security & Public Safety Analyst I is $64,575 to $103,320.

About the Job:

The Aviation & Public Safety Department is seeking an avid and skilled individual to fill the essential role of Security & Public Safety Analyst I. This dynamic role offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of aviation security, public safety, and emergency preparedness.

The ideal candidate will provide specialized and detailed support in managing aviation security protocols, public safety initiatives, and emergency response programs. The selected candidate will be a proactive problem solver with strong situational awareness and will play a key role in responding to and coordinating security events, ensuring all operational practices are aligned with current regulations, standards, mandates, and organizational requirements.

 

What You’ll Do:

Security & Operations: Coordinates daily security, public safety, and landside operational requirements to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Coordinates airport and employee security matters; adheres to emergency plans and certification manual requirements. Manages access to security-controlled and other operational areas; enforces relevant programs, directives, laws, mandates, and practices. Responds to and mitigates issues related to drills, emergency and disaster preparedness, crisis situations, security breaches, alarm activations, accidents, evacuations, power outages, crowd control, internal and external threats, medical emergencies, and irregular operations.

Regulation & Policy: Interprets regulations, mandates, programs, initiatives and serves as a subject matter expert and resource on areas of assignments. Conducts security and safety assessments, tests, and outreach activities. Represents and completes presentations on security and safety programs to groups, committees, procurement selection processes, and other initiatives.

Stakeholder Management: Advances partnerships and interacts with internal and external stakeholders. Collaboratively determines the course of action to realize resolutions and facilitate projects. Cites for violations and recommends remedial actions. Communicates operational advisories, resolves issues, and facilitates decision making. Advances implementation and acceptance of programs. Monitors and coordinates contractual activities.

Program Development: Participates in opportunities to develop or streamline programs, practices, documents, reports, data, budgets, and airport infrastructure. Advances currency with industry and regulatory trends; performs other duties as assigned.

Operational Driving: Driving throughout the SAN campus, including landside and airside EDR to complete inspections respond to safety measure calls, and uphold day to day activities within the SAN campus.

Problem Solving & Agility – Proven critical analysis, root cause identification, and problem-solving/conflict resolution abilities. Strong close attention to details and organizational abilities to complete assignments within expectations. Must be able to use effective judgment and self-motivation to complete work assignments and meet commitments.

Requirements
The Experience You Need to Have**:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in aviation management, public administration, security or emergency management, or a closely related field;
One year of progressively responsible administrative and/or programmatic experience in aviation security and/or emergency preparedness;
Or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements :

Maintain a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority’s vehicle insurance policy.
Successful completion of a fingerprint-based background investigation, training, and testing required for employment and operation and operation of Authority and San Diego County physical security, surveillance, radio and telecommunications equipment.
Preferred Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

AAAE CM or AAE, ACE Security, or U.S. Airport Professional USAP

This role requires regular driving as a critical part of performing work-related duties, specifically involving the operation of Airport Authority vehicles. A valid California driver’s license is required, along with strict adherence to all traffic laws and safety regulations. Applicants must maintain an acceptable driving record to operate Authority vehicles. Compliance with Airport Authority vehicle use policies, including safety protocols and reporting requirements, is mandatory. Applicants must acknowledge that driving Airport Authority vehicles is an essential function of this role.
