The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority is seeking an experienced Labor Relations Manager to join our team.

That’s a high-level description of the Labor Relations Manager at the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority.

Who are we? We are the owners/operators of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. We are a small but mighty team of 280-ish employees who take tremendous pride in the work we do and the important role we play in our community and the Reno-Tahoe region. We are accounting professionals and Maintenance staff. We are Architects and Engineers, Police Officers and Operations Managers (and much more). And, we are undertaking the largest capital improvement project in the history of our airport: MoreRNO.

What’s it like working on the People Operations Team? Reporting to the Director of People Operations, you will have the opportunity to put your strong experience to work establishing best practices and setting the standard in this new role. There’s constantly something interesting happening at the RTAA, and as a member of “People Ops,” you are always close to the heart of the action. We are a well-established team and are looking for ambition and expertise in equal measure as we guide our organization into an exciting era which will see the opening of a new RTAA Headquarters building (HQ) and new terminals. Responsibilities: In This Role You Will

·         Establish positive working relationships and provide ongoing support for RTAA managers with respect to employee relations and collective bargaining agreement (CBA) requirements. Provide counsel and coaching for managers and employees to assist with finding solutions in complex performance and disciplinary cases.

·         Establish positive working relationships with shop stewards and other union/association representatives to improve collaboration and facilitate effective problem solving and conflict resolution when necessary.

·         Serve as RTAA’s Chief Negotiator during new or successor negotiations; perform analyses of union proposals; craft counter and initial proposal language, obtain/prepare cost data for RTAA and union proposals as needed.

·         Administer and interpret provisions of RTAA collective bargaining agreements for management, supervisors, payroll and other employees; resolve disputes over contract interpretation, disciplinary procedures and actions, and other related issues.

·         Manage grievance processes including compliance with timelines, grievance meetings and responses, and negotiated settlements; coordinate and assist with arbitration as requested. Collaborate with legal counsel as needed through Director of People Operations.

·         Manage employee relations issues from complaint to resolution, recommending appropriate disciplinary actions up to and including termination.  Assist with development of Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs), as needed and appropriate.

·         Conduct through investigations regarding behavioral and performance issues in accordance with RTAA policies and provisions stipulated in Collective Bargaining Agreements.

·         Administer all compensation and other programs in accordance with their respective CBAs and applicable guidelines. Oversee data, pay and classification changes in the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and the performance management and timekeeping systems to ensure accurate and timely payroll data. Work closely with Payroll Administrator as needed.

This position is essential personnel as part of RTAA’s Emergency Response Team and is required to respond to airport incidents as requested/required.

Entry Salary: $105,700 – $131,000 per year, with opportunity for additional merit-based increases to a range maximum of $156,400. Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications.   This position is salaried and exempt from overtime.

Minimum Requirements: Education | Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or related field or equivalent experience.
A minimum of 5+ years of increasingly responsible experience in People Operations/Human Resources with strong working knowledge of collective bargaining tactics and principles.
3+ years of labor relations experience, performed in a collectively bargained environment.
3 + years experience with employee relations practices from complaint to resolution.
Required Licensing and/or Certifications

·         Possession of a valid Driver’s License; ability to obtain and maintain eligibility to hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.

·         SPHR/PHR or SHRM certification is highly preferred.
