Job Summary: The Manager, Construction is responsible for the management of assigned architectural and civil construction projects such as terminal reconstruction, hangar construction, office space build outs, new building construction and airfield pavement reconstruction projects. Typical responsibilities include assisting in the development of requests for proposals (RFPs) and change orders/amendments, reviewing schedules, providing direction in accordance with the contract documents, coordinating work between contractors and other stakeholders, assisting the Quality Assurance (QA) department with QA/QC within contract requirements, and monitoring Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE) and Small, Minority and Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (SMWBE) activities on projects.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Manages the contractor process, including participating in contractor selection, ensuring deliverables have been received, and reviewing and responding to change requests and claims.
- Oversees architectural, mechanical, electrical, and civil construction activities, including terminal reconstruction, hangar construction, office space build out, new building construction and airfield pavement reconstruction.
- Reviews and provides first level approvals on contractor proposals, change orders, and other required cost data.
Coordinates with QA department to ensure compliance with construction documents, standards, codes, and guidelines. - Performs constructability reviews of plans and specifications at required stages of design for construction and tenant improvement projects.
- Monitors invoices for correct information including dates and rates.
- Oversees projects undertaken by airport tenants.
- Updates project database throughout project and project closeout.
- Assists the Design department in development of capital improvement projects, including feasibility, design and constructability reviews, and preparation of the construction documents.
- Reviews schedules for logic and completeness.
- Works with the general contractors on preparation of the schedule of values for the project.
- Assists as a committee member in evaluating Request For Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Qualifications (RFQs).
- Allocates construction coordinator staff to provide coverage on all projects.
- Confers with supervisory personnel, contractors, design consultants, and other professionals to resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.
- Coordinates construction activities among property owners, state officials, departments, contractors, and design team to ensure projects are planned in logical steps and time is budgeted to meet deadlines.
- Identifies environmental hazards and addresses them in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
- Monitors DBEs’ and SMWBEs’ activities on worksites.
- Reviews and approves contractor pay requests in accordance with contract documents.
- Reviews plans, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings for work being performed.
- Maintains regular and on-time attendance.
- Follows all safety regulations.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related field
- 4-7 years of experience in a related field
Preferred:
- Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related field
- 7-10 years of experience in a related field
- License: Professional Engineer
- Certification: Accredited Airport Executive
- American Institute of Architects Member
