Position Summary
Perform a variety of journey level, skilled carpentry, cabinetry and general construction duties supporting the construction, maintenance, repair and remodeling of City buildings and facilities and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
High school diploma or GED supplemented by a two (2) year technical or formal apprenticeship program in finish carpentry or cabinet making; and
Two (2) years of general carpentry experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License, or ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Must be able to successfully qualify for and maintain a Sunport Access Control Card as determined by the criteria set forth by the policies and guidelines of the Aviation Department and the Transportation Security Administrations (TSA).
Preferred Knowledge
Principles, procedures and terminology used in the carpentry and cabinetry trade
Tools and materials used in custom carpentry and cabinetry work
Characteristics of various types of wood
Stains, sealers, lacquers and other wood treatments and finishes
Methods and procedures in building construction repair and remodeling
Finish carpentry including cabinet and furniture making techniques
Methods and techniques of fence construction
Methods and techniques of sheet rocking and plastering
Methods and techniques of surface patching, painting and refinishing
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
Preferred Skills & Abilities
Correctly used and apply a variety of carpentry and cabinet-making skills
Design, read and interpret plans and blueprints
Work with plastic laminates and different types of adhesive
Repair and/or replace damaged windows, drywall, tiles, roofing and related items
Estimate time materials and equipment required for jobs
Measure and cut materials precisely
Operate all woodworking and wood cutting machines effectively and safely
Work independently in the absence of supervision
Understand and follow oral and written instructions
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Communicate clearly and concisely
Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
