SALARY

$19.94 – $21.61 Hourly
$1,595.20 – $1,728.80 Biweekly
$41,475.20 – $44,948.80 Annually

Position Summary
Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the daily operational work for the airport access control
office; participate in the development of policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with
established policies, procedures and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations; act as a liaison for
issues pertaining to access requirements, security issues, etc.

Supervision Received and Exercised
Receive general supervision from Airport Access Control Coordinator.
Exercise technical lead or direct supervision over lower level staff.
Essential and Supplemental Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below)
1. Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for collecting data and
issuance of media required for work under the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) guidelines.
2. Interact with the general public; airport vendors, tenants, and government agencies; respond to and resolve questions,
complaints or disputes and implement corrective actions; act as liaison pertaining to access requirements, security
issues, billing, etc.
3. Participate in the development of policies and procedures; monitor work activities to ensure compliance with
established policies and procedures; make recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and
procedures.
4. Assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures.
5. Establish schedules and methods for providing Access Control Office services; identify resource needs and review with
appropriate management staff.
6. Monitor and perform the more technical and complex task of the work unit to include quality control, assuring efficient
and courteous handling of calls.
7. Ensure that all electronic equipment and databases relative to the Access Control Office activities are operating;
evaluate and recommend changes to the automation need of the Access Control Office.
8. Participate in the selection of Access Control staff; motivate and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff training;
work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement disciplinary actions.
9. Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identify resource needs; review with
appropriate management staff; implement approved improvements.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Perform all duties of the access control staff as required.
2. Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of airport
security access.
3. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year
basis.
Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or Airport Security; and
Four (4) years of experience in general airport operations, access control, airport security, airline access operations, records
management, or database administration management; and
To Include one (1) year lead or supervisory experience.
Experience in airport security, access control or airport operations preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Dependent on position may require a valid New Mexico Driver’s license and a City Operator’s Permit (COP).
Must be able to successfully qualify for and maintain a Sunport Access Control Card as determined by the criteria set forth
by the policies and guidelines of the Aviation Department and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Successful completion of a security background check conducted by U.S. Customs & Border Protection, if applicable.

Preferred Knowledge
• Operations, services and activities of an airport operations and communications program
• Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
• Basic computer programs; word processing, excel
• Modern and complex principles and practices of airport operations and communications
• Operational characteristics of an airport operations center and communications systems and equipment
• Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations

• Utilize computer programs and software relevant to assigned area

• Monitor multiple systems/activities and diagnose and or resolve moderately difficult first level support problems
• Perform a variety of analysis duties in the development, implementation and support of information systems and
operations
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City
officials and the general public
• Communicate clearly and concisely
• Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation

Working Conditions
Environmental:
Office environment; exposure to computer screens.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, sitting or standing
for prolonged periods of time; extensive use of computer keyboard; moderate lifting.
