Under the direction of the Director of Aviation, performs professional work to ensure compliance with all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), State of Louisiana, East Baton Rouge City-Parish laws, rules and regulations regarding airport management. Work involves the overall coordination of departmental operations in the area of federal and state compliance. The incumbent is subject to twenty-four hour call for situations needing immediate attention. Work involves the use of independent judgment within established guidelines and is reviewed through written reports and conferences. May supervise clerical support staff. Performs other work as requested.

SALARY RANGE: $46,805 – $77,144

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Conducts daily inspections of airfield, including paved and non-paved areas, for compliance with federal, state and local rules and regulations regarding safety and security; maintains log of daily inspection reports; advises the Director of Aviation and/or the Airport Commission of conditions and/or situations. Assures departmental compliance with all FAA and state laws and regulations; modifies airport programs to comply with new regulations; recommends and updates changes to the Airport Emergency Plan, Airport Security Plan and Airport Certification Manual. Serves as contact person for FAA requirements including all personnel training requirements; advises the Flight Service Station and the FAA Air Traffic Control Tower personnel when adverse conditions exist. Develops airport ordinances and procedures for implementing newly required FAA or other federal and state laws regarding airports. Ensures all airport personnel are in compliance with FAA and state regulations and receives the proper training to remain in compliance with these laws; conducts airfield safety operation training. Reviews documentation used in the selection process of employees in order to comply with FAA laws regarding employment background and security clearance. May supervise subordinate employees.
