The Kenton County Airport Board (“KCAB”) is soliciting bids to design, configure and install the retrofit of the Southwest Detention Facility outlet structure with Continuous Monitoring and Adaptive Control (CMAC) technology. The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (“CVG”) is located at the headwaters of two major watersheds, the Gunpowder Creek and Elijah Creek watersheds. Stormwater runoff at CVG is managed at three large detention facilities. CVG conducted a review of the Southwest Detention Facility to evaluate the current performance and to identify potential opportunities for improvements. The review identified a unique opportunity to use innovative technology to provide water quality benefits within the basin as well as significant hydromodification benefits to the receiving stream. In 2020, KCAB was awarded a grant through the Kentucky Division of Water (KYDOW) Nonpoint Source Pollution Control Program to install and test a Continuous Monitoring and Adaptive Controls (CMAC) system at the Southwest Detention Facility, South dam. This project proposes to make the necessary retrofits using a CMAC system and to optimize the equipment with predictive weather forecast driven real time control technology.
