We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Director, Maintenance and Facilities Optimization, reporting to the Vice President, Airport Development and Asset Optimization. The successful candidate will be accountable for effective maintenance for the organizations $3B in assets including buildings and facilities, mechanical plant, high voltage electrical supply and distribution, passenger boarding bridges, fleet and utilities. A strong focus on maximizing the value of all assets and infrastructure, meeting service levels in a dynamic 24/7 operating environment and leveraging data and technology to optimize systems and reduce enterprise risk and climate related impacts are critical elements of this role. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the senior leadership team at YVR as we drive towards our objective of net zero carbon emissions by 2030 and meeting strategic objectives in support of our overall purpose of serving the community and the economy that supports it.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the maintenance and facilities optimization team with accountability for the effective maintenance and management of assets and facilities in a 24/7 operating environment
  • Strengthening foundational maintenance practices to meet agreed upon service levels for the performance of assets, infrastructure and systems for internal and external customers
  • Identifying, developing, monitoring and reporting of key performance indicators
  • Championing the development and use of data and technology to drive insights, predictive analytics and data driven decisions
  • Establishing standards and preventative maintenance programs to ensure maximum value, reliability and performance of assets and systems
  • Providing leadership and support to the enterprise integrated asset management program and asset management plans
  • Championing the development of an energy management program to reduce the impacts from facility operations
  • Championing a mindset of continuous improvement across all aspects of the portfolio
  • Maintaining currency in maintenance, facilities management, asset management, energy management planning and construction practices
  • Providing support and direction to the team – this includes monitoring work efforts and performance, hiring, coaching, motivating and supporting developmental activities, conducting formal evaluations and applying appropriate discipline

Key qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering supplemented by at least 10 years of recent, related experience in maintenance, facilities management, asset management and/or energy management in a complex operational environment
  • Certification in facilities management, asset management, energy management or an MBA would be an asset
  • Proven ability to lead optimization and an asset management approach, maximizing the long term value of assets and infrastructure
  • Solid understanding of Maintenance, Facilities Management and Asset Management enterprise systems including Maximo
  • Demonstrated experience in business case development, as well as financial acumen, and detailed engineering, maintenance and operations knowledge
  • Well-organized and able to keep numerous short- and long-term objectives clearly in perspective; able to determine priorities, respond effectively to changes and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and customers to achieve objectives; champions best practice, quality management and long-term sustainability
  • A strategic thinker who embraces organizational agility in delivering value though people centred outcomes
  • Exceptional leadership capabilities with emphasis on accountability, empowering others, connecting people, values aligned decision-making and the ability to foster a motivating and respectful environment and champions diversity
  • Approachable and tactful, can influence and motivate stakeholders to achieve objectives
  • Demonstrated success in building, coaching, mentoring and leading high performance teams
  • Open, fair and transparent – leads by example and can easily impart knowledge through teaching and training techniques; keeps people informed
  • Demonstrated experience in leading transformational change in an organization
  • Experience in a unionized environment is as asset
