Director of Airports – CCR

The County of Contra Costa

The County of Contra Costa is seeking a Director of Airports. The Director of Airports reports directly to the Chief Deputy Public Works Director in matters of policy and issues coming before the Board of Supervisors. Under general direction, the Director manages and operates the County airports and plans for development of future airport facilities, developing and managing a capital improvement and maintenance program. The Director promotes and manages County property used for aviation purposes and represents the County in aviation matters and related community relations.

Position Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in airport management, business administration, public administration, engineering, planning, law enforcement, security or a closely related field.
  • Possession of an Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) Certificate or Certified Member (C.M.) issued by the American Association of Airport Executives desired.
  • Five (5) years of full-time (or equivalent of full-time) progressively responsible experience at a civil airport in airport operations, airport property management, airport budgeting, airport noise abatement, public relations, capital and maintenance programming.
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four (4) years.

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this position is $126,426.60 – $153,672.48* and is accompanied by a generous compensation and benefits package. A starting salary above mid-range is possible for the exceptional candidate. Relocation assistance will be offered.

*The salary range is currently under review and is expected to be increased in the Spring of 2022
