The San Luis Obispo Airport is conducting an open recruitment for a new position of Deputy Director, Planning and Outreach. The individual in this role will be a key member of the Airport’s senior leadership team and play an instrumental role in the overall strategic direction of the airport.
The individual selected for this role will report directly to the Airport Director and be responsible for the planning, development and external communication of programs relating to the County airports. They will advise the Director of Airports in making strategic decisions regarding the public advancement of the Airport and have responsibility for the development and execution of aviation strategic objectives and marketing/advertising programs for the County airports. Additionally, the individual will work with the executive team to drive business growth by working with key industries and local stakeholders with a focus on increasing airline passenger growth and non-airline revenue generation.
Development of, and maintenance of, the Airport Master Plan, Strategic Business Plan, Airport Capital Improvement Program and SBP Voluntary Noise Abatement Program are managed by the Deputy Director.
Serve as the liaison between County personnel, media representatives, tenants, users, general community, governmental agencies, businesses and outside organizations concerning airport plans and programs, prepare and deliver oral presentations, and prepare informational and media releases for the public. Additionally, provide crisis communication planning and training of airport staff in preparation of potential incidents that could have severe community, economic or environmental consequences and maintain the Airport’s on-call calendar to provide timely and effective responses to media inquiries 24/7/365.
Business Development and Marketing
Working closely with the Director of Airports, the individual selected will be responsible for coordinating marketing programs, implementation of business development strategy and some work on air service development. Individual will plan, implement, and direct all marketing functions of the Airport, which includes: an annual marketing plan, advertising budget for various types of media, airport web site, community outreach plan, and representation at appropriate industry trade shows. Will research economic impact of air service and assist with the outreach and education of target audiences to influence growth.

Air service marketing and development experience at a non-hub or small hub airport

Being able to successfully manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Effectively work, make decisions and communicate under a variety of emergency conditions involving public safety
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in aviation management, business administration or a related field. (Job-related, professional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.) In addition, three years of experience involving the operations and services of an airport or similar organization including one year of which must be in an administrative or supervisory position.
Starting salary for this position is between $87,235-$106,038 DOE. The County of San Luis Obispo offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance. Employees of the Airport participate in the San Luis Obispo County Pension System.
