Established in 1980 by the Airport Commission, SFO Museum’s mission is to delight, engage, and inspire a global audience with programming on a broad range of subjects; to collect, preserve, interpret, and share the history of commercial aviation; and to enrich the public experience at San Francisco International Airport. The Museum has been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums since 1999 and retains the distinction of being the only accredited museum in an airport. The Museum operates more than twenty-five sites throughout the Airport terminals, including fourteen galleries that exhibit a rotating schedule of art, history, photography, science, and cultural exhibitions. Among the sites is the San Francisco Airport Commission Aviation Library and Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum, which houses a permanent collection of more than 150,000 objects related to the history of commercial aviation. Position Description

Do you have a passion for museums and creating videos? Are you a short-form film connoisseur or a video artist? Be our storyteller! We are searching for a Video Arts Curator and Videographer to manage and curate the Video Arts program and create videos to be used on the Museum’s website and within exhibitions. Emphasis within both projects is given to highlighting the roles of racial, gender, and identity diverse subject matter in support of the Museum’s and Airport’s goals towards achieving racial equity.

You will be charged with managing the process of artist outreach, film selection, modification to video files, and overseeing and managing the gallery’s equipment. You will also be responsible for storyboarding, filming, editing, and finalizing videos that deepen the understanding of the presented subject matter to be used on the museum’s website, social media channels, Airport display monitors, and within exhibitions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in the fine arts, art history, decorative arts, design, history, library science, museum studies, natural history, science, technology, or other closely related disciplines.

Experience:  Three (3) years of museum experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of contemporary short-form fine art film and video artists;
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro; Final Cut Pro; After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and experience with Omnivex Moxie a plus.
  • Strong production and editorial skills;
  • Mac and PC proficient;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, assistants, supervisor, Museum and Airport staff, outside agencies, and the public;
  • Demonstrated concern for detail, accuracy, and neat execution of work.
