Enjoy the flexibility of telecommuting as a Senior Safety Specialist. The Diverse Talent, Culture & Capability (TCC) Department seeks a self-directed individual with keen attention to detail. The TCC Department delivers human resources, organizational development, safety, wellness, and administrative services to the organization.

 

A successful applicant will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced and continually evolving environment. This position is responsible for taking effective steps to mitigate and ensure compliance of workplace conditions with regulations, occupational safety, and health standards; coordinates loss prevention activities and minimizes potential hazards and injuries to employees and property and;

 

1.      Manages and promotes workplace health programs and safety culture; evaluates and controls workplace health and safety hazards or impact of environmental factors; completes or coordinates assessments of workplace environment; facilitates vehicle fleet driving program activities; implements Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP); participates in emergency response programs.

2.      Develops and implements employee health and safety programs, including occupational, fire protection, hazardous materials, environmental hazard abatement, materials, equipment, and work practices consistent with mandates and standards; reviews accident and property damages.

3.      Coordinates, processes, and tracks worker’s compensation claims; serves as a technical resource to others, including employees, third-party administrators, medical providers, and other stakeholders; authorizes medical treatment and manages related medical cases; coordinates return to work; restrictions.

4.      Coordinates and maintains schedules for ergonomic evaluations; submit and track ergonomic equipment and orders

5.      Audits safety programs and conditions; completes field visits and safety inspections; responds to hazard and personal injury situations; produces finding reports and follows up on implementing remedial actions; escalates and reports claims to carriers and outside agencies as appropriate.

6.      Monitors program effectiveness, identify gaps and recommends improvement, develops and socializes safety practices and programs, author reports, designs, delivers training, facilitates committees, and conducts safety meetings.

7.      Maintains reports, logs, and drafts correspondence; maintains OSHA records; matins currency of industry trends and practices; completes others as assigned.

 

Those assigned to this position have day-to-day operational responsibilities as listed above as well as:

1.      Completes and provides intermediate to complex activities and guidance to others regarding practices and work standards on safety programs; supervises, provides feedback and coaches for performance; fosters collaborative relationships and an inclusive work environment.

2.      Clarifies responsibilities, assigns work and establishes expectations; delivers presentations; evaluates and implements programs, systems, and procedures; performs other duties as assigned.

 

Competencies:

1. Risk Assessment: Analyzes risks and defines problems, advances alternative solutions, and identifies optimal solutions; knowledge of occupational safety regulations including OSHA, CalOSHA, workers compensation, vehicle safety, ergonomics, and other safety-related standards.

2. Business Acumen – Ability to develop and execute workplace safety programs and practices; and branding strategies, broad understanding of the business, departments functions, and the supporting work activities across the organization.

3. Relationship Management – Ability to consult with a diverse team and provide advice at all levels of the organization; resolve conflict, establish trust, and advocate for the integrity of practices and objectives.

4. Consultation – Ability to speak knowledgeably about programs; guide stakeholders and problem-solve; communicate concisely orally and in writing.

5. Critical Evaluation – Ability to provide strategic thought leadership; build strong relationships, collaborate across the organization at all levels, influence without direct authority, define a problem and identify an optimal recommendation.

6. Project Management – Proven experience in prioritizing, multi-task, implementing safety strategies, and delivering within the time allocated.

7. Agility – Readily adapt behavior and work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles.

8. Technology – Proficient use of electronic systems associated with the industry to connect with stakeholders and generate reports and metrics to drive decision-making.

 

The hiring salary for this position is $ 101,583.

 

Required Experience, Training, and Education:

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university in employee safety management, occupational health studies, or  another related field.
  • Six years of occupational health and employee safety experience, at least two years were in a supervisory capacity.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certification:

  •  A valid Class C California driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority’s vehicle insurance program.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Instructor certification preferred.
  • EHS certifications (e.g., Associate Safety Professional preferred, Certified Safety Professional preferred, Certified Safety & Health Specialist preferred)
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response certificates must be obtained within one year of appointment and maintained continuingly.
