At the RTAA, the Manager of IT is a key member of the TIS team, helping to develop and achieve the department’s strategic priorities, goals, objectives and initiatives.  The Manager of IT reports to, and provides highly responsible and complex staff assistance to, the Chief Information Officer, and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operational activities of a large and complex IT environment with numerous high-availability, mission critical systems.  The Manager of IT will provide management and oversight for network administration, telecommunications, break-fix response, vendor/contract administration, and the development and implementation of standard operating procedures and the department’s budget.  The Manager of IT works collaboratively with stakeholders in the development, coordination, and maintenance of technology and information systems.

The nature of the position requires the ability to lead, motivate, develop, and manage a team of professional and technical personnel; the ability to develop tactical plans and achieve strategic goals; the ability to analyze problems, project consequences, identify alternatives, and implement timely and effective solutions in support of the TIS department’s strategic goals, objectives and initiatives; excellent business communication skills; and the ability to establish, maintain and foster effective working relationships.

Background:  While Reno has long been known as the gateway to the Lake Tahoe region, it is moving well beyond a tourism destination. Tech giants such as Tesla, Switch, Panasonic, Apple, Google and Amazon have propelled the northern Nevada region in new and exciting directions. The region is experiencing an evolution that includes not only significant job growth, but also a revitalization of Reno’s midtown district. The RTAA is the owner and operator of the Reno-Tahoe International (RNO) and Reno-Stead Airports. Annually RNO serves 4.2 million passengers, a number that has continued to grow.  In order to meet the anticipated passenger growth, RNO finalized a 20-year Master Plan in January 2019.  The RTAA functions like a small city with over 270 employees working in a variety of functions, including Police, Fire, Human Resources, Accounting, Planning, Engineering, and Marketing.


Entry Salary: $87,800 – $110,628 annually, with opportunity for additional merit-based increases up to a range maximum of $133,456 annually.  Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications.  This is a management at-will position, which is salaried and is exempt from overtime.

Minimum Qualifications: 
Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Information Systems, Computer Science or a closely related field.  An equivalent combination of directly related IT management experience may be substituted on a year for year basis (e.g., one year of full-time experience will be considered equivalent to thirty (30) semester or (45) quarter units of college course work).

Required Experience: Five (5) years of full-time, IT management experience in a large/complex IT environment, which must include two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Required Licensing: A valid driver’s license is required at the time of application.
