The Position: The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) is seeking a candidate with proven experience successfully leading a large operational unit and a demonstrated commitment to cultivating a positive, collaborative work environment that values teamwork, honesty, respect, recognition, integrity, innovation, versatility and excellence, to join our Executive Leadership Team as the Chief Operations & Public Safety Officer.
At the RTAA, the Chief Operations & Public Safety Officer reports to the President/CEO and is responsible for the overall strategic leadership, direction, management, and administration of a diverse, multi-disciplinary division that includes the Airport Rescue Firefighting Department, the Airport Police Department, the Airport Communications Department, the Airport Operations Department, and the Reno-Stead Airport. The Chief Operations & Public Safety Officer is accountable for navigating complex situations to successfully lead, evolve, and optimize the Operations & Public Safety division.
As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this position provides highly responsible and complex management support to the President/CEO, and works in close coordination with other members of the Executive Leadership Team in order to achieve the alignment of the division’s operations in support of the RTAA’s strategic priorities.
The nature of the position requires one to be a dynamic, flexible leader with the ability to guide individuals, teams, and departments toward the achievement of strategic goals; the ability to employ strong planning and strategic competencies; and the ability to exercise effective communication skills.
Salary: $139,363 – $211,832 annually. Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications. This is a management at-will position, which is salaried and is exempt from overtime.

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Airport/Aviation Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or a closely related field.
Required Experience: Twelve (12) years of commercial airport operations and/or public safety experience, which must include at least six (6) years of management experience at the senior-level capacity.
Preferred Experience: Direct experience managing collective bargaining agreements, labor relations, and labor negotiations.
Required Licensing: A valid driver’s license is required at the time of application.
