Some of what you’ll be doing:
As an Airport Duty Manager, you will be the primary point of contact for information and direction regarding safety, security, emergencies, compliance, construction, airline, passenger, tenants, and the surrounding public.

  • You will ensure safety, security, and continuity in the operations of the airport.
  • You will inspect the terminal areas for deficiencies, cleanliness, safe movement and monitor security checkpoints and international arrivals for passenger efficiency.
  • You will inspect airfield and bagwell area for discrepancies, safety issues and make the appropriate corrections to conditions.
  • You will enforce violations of Port of Seattle Rules and Regulations by issuing citations and educating offenders.
  • You will apprise senior management of situations and conditions impacting the normal operations of the airport.
  • You will respond to all airport emergencies and act as the airport operations primary representative, as directed, in the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP) and within NIMS.
  • You will participate on the Operations snow team and be on-call during airport emergencies.
  • You will participate on or lead special projects or program committees, such as weather, safety team, queue management, budget, emergency management, and environmental coordination.
  • You will lead, direct, and support employees during shifts when direct supervisors or managers are not present in order to make high-level decisions.

Who you are:

  • Experienced – You have three (3) years of experience in aviation/flight operations and/or safety management.
  • Educated – You possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation or related field and you can obtain a Washington State Concealed Pistol License within 60 days and complete the American Association of Airport Executive (AAAE) Certified Member (CM) program within two years of hire date.
  • Desired – We hope you have five (5) years of experience aviation or airport management and/or you are AAAE as an Airport Certified Member or are an Accredited Airport Executive.

  • Judgment – You have excellent judgment and can react quickly and calmly in stressful and hazardous situations.

What else you need to know: 

  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
  • Work Schedule – This is a seven day a week and twenty-four hour a day operation. Normal work schedule will vary. Must be able and willing to work rotating shifts, any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. Will be required to work during emergencies including 12+ hour shifts.
  • Work Environment – You will generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces. Must be able to climb stairs and respond to most areas of the airport.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
