Job Summary:

The Manager, Accounting (Operating) assists in the oversight of all financial functions of the Airport Authority and is responsible for the integrity of the general ledger, including the reporting of data to internal and external users and regulatory agencies. Also, manages and is responsible for the accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, and payroll processes.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Manages, reviews and audits the entire general ledger accounting process which includes review or preparation of major balance sheet account reconciliations including:  Cash, Accounts Payable (A/P), Accounts Receivable (A/R), Debt services, etc.; journal entries including standard and closing; analytical review of documents and schedule for financial statements.
  • Monitors general ledger activities for proper allocations of revenues, expenses and cash. Initiates corrections to the general ledger as required.  Reviews/performs account reconciliations, adjustments and closing entries for the general ledger. Review and post daily general ledger journal entries.
  • Reviews monthly and year-end closing of financial records including accruals, reversals, and reconciliations related to Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Debt Service and various other Asset and Liability accounts including system errors in the General Ledger and AX.
  • Provides leadership and works with staff to create a high performance, service-oriented work environment that supports the Nashville airport experience.
  • Develops, coaches, mentors and oversees professional development opportunities for staff’s continuous education and growth.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Authority’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, coaching/mentoring staff, planning and directing work, appraising performance and resolving problems.
  • Provides direct supervision of the following staff:  AR/AP Supervisor, Accountants, Payroll Manager.  Acts as back-up in his/her absence.  Provides general supervision and guidance over the functions of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll and General Accounting.
  • Works with the Compliance/CIP Manager and Information Technology to maximize the Authority’s use of the integrated financial system and implement new modules and processes in the system.  Recommends and works with user divisions to upgrade software to new releases.
  • Prepares the annual true-up calculation to the Airlines.
  • Manages and reviews all tenant reimbursement contracts and agreements. Evaluates and properly records assets and liabilities pertaining to these reimbursements; reviews nature and reasonableness of tenant project expenditures and categorizes assets, as well as compliance with additional agreement terms and policies, prior to issuing payment.
  • Reviews and verifies the reconciliation of various balance sheet accounts and related income statement accounts of accounting staff, all inter-company activity including borrowing and repayments on a monthly basis, and monthly parking revenue account (cash and credit card) to bank and credit card statements, ensuring proper recording of revenue on the general ledger.
  • Manages sales tax remittances and compliance including processing annual sales tax returns to State.
    Establishes system controls for new financial systems and develops procedures to improve existing systems.
    Maintains all accounts, cost centers and area codes in the integrated financial system chart of accounts for financial reporting purposes.
  • Assists with the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
  • Assists the Controller as needed with Grant/CIP, Passenger Facility Charges (PFC), fixed assets accounting and management, and with the implementation of new Governmental Maintains all accounts, cost centers and area codes in the integrated financial system chart of accounts for financial reporting purposes.
  • Collects, analyzes and reports data using a variety of internal and external financial reports as requested.
    Documents internal accounting and reporting policies and procedures, related internal controls and other risk-based items in accordance with Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) framework or other relevant guidance.
  • Assists with the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
  • Interprets and enforces policies, regulations, and practices as required.
  • Follows all safety regulations.
  • Maintains regular and on-time attendance.

    Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of audit, general ledger, or related experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant.

Preferred:

  • 4 to 7 years of project accounting, grant management or related experience.
