Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Business Development, the PIO will be responsible for creating and disseminating written and verbal internal and external communication on behalf of the Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB) and Melbourne Airport Authority, including but not limited to, key messaging to airport stakeholders, media relations, community affairs, crisis communication and grant writing. Work involves interfacing with MLB and MAA stakeholders, media, federal, state, and local governmental agencies, and community partners including local chambers of commerce. Position will also support and collaborate with manager of marketing as it relates to the content of, marketing and branding, social media, promotions, special events, emergency response, presentations, and newsletters.
Examples of Duties
Serves as the Airport’s spokesperson and Public Information Officer and is the point of contact for all media inquiries.
Supports Executive Director and management team with speaking engagements including developing remarks and presentations.
Researches and writes both proactive and reactive communication materials including press releases, quotes, and media alerts/briefing.
Completes copywriting for airport publications, brochures and web-based materials.
Develops partnerships and leverages relationships with area businesses and tourism entities.
Supports governmental affairs initiatives.
Supports grant writing working with relevant Airport staff.
Maintains and updates contact lists for media and key Airport stakeholders.
Writes, maintains, and manages Airport staff bios.
Responds to general customer and public inquiries to the Airport.
Coordinates VIP visits and tours.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in communications and/or public relations (Proof of education must be uploaded with application).
Three (3) years of public information/community relations related experience.
Aviation (Airline/Airport) experience preferred
