Manages the preparation and produces contract documents in Civil 3D for Capital Programs in-house designs. The Civil/CIM Designer also manages and coordinates the work of other available in-house and/or consultant drafters as the need arises. The designer’s duties also includes scheduling the work to meet project deadlines.

Essential Tasks of the JobA.    Perform typical designer/drafting functions for various horizontal in-house design projects.
B.    Maintains a drawing/model register with the status of each drawing/model and assigns work to others as required and available.
C.    Ensures drawing consistency throughout by performing quality assurance checks as work progresses.
D.    Establishes plans and profiles based on survey information and Federal Aviation Administration Advisory Circular (FAA AC) design requirements.
E.    Works with engineering and aviation staff to develop construction phasing consistent with available work zones.
F.    Works with engineers to develop project design and drafting production schedules and adherence to those schedules.
G.    Works with engineering staff to prepare layout of airfield electrical components based on FAA AC design requirements.
H.    Ensures use of Civil 3D/BIM/CIM capabilities within the work and incorporates new technology as it becomes available.
I.    Works with engineering staff to prepare layout of airfield markings based on FAA AC design requirements.
J.    Works with Assistant Project Managers to provide training and expand in-house design and drafting capabilities.
K.    Ensures compliance with MPA Civil 3D standards and provides input on improving such standards where applicable.
L.    Prepares conceptual graphics for inclusion in presentations and the Capital Investment Plan (CIP) as requested.
M.    Assists engineers with quantity take-offs from Civil 3D models.
N.    Performs/assists with field measurements for design needs.
O.    Assist with field observation during construction when necessary.
P.    Ability to work with a diverse group of engineers, architects, administrative, planning and others in an office environment.

SECONDARY JOB TASKS:

A.    Provide technical expertise and support to project managers on selected projects.
B.    Works closely with the rest of the Design Technologies Integration Group (DTIG) to ensure Airport Geospatial Information Systems (AGIS) is put into effect and utilized.
C.    Performs other duties to assist with the Capital Investment Plan (CIP) as assigned.

 

 

Job Requirements and QualificationsEDUCATION LEVEL: Associate Degree in Engineering or Architecture

EXPERIENCE IN RELATED FIELD: 5 + years of experience preparing engineering drawings using AutoCAD or Civil 3D.

UNIQUE EXPERTISE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATIONS:

1.    Proficiency with Civil 3D.
2.    Understanding of fundamental civil engineering.
3.    Understanding of BIM (Building Information Modeling).
4.    Familiarity with cost estimating, scheduling, and office software.
5.    Able to organize and file electronic information, prioritize work and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
6.    Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
7.    Massachusetts Class D (III) driver’s license.
8.    Ability to pass a Massport background check and obtain a Massport Security Badge.
9.    Ability to pass Massport pre-placement physical, controlled substance testing and background security check.

 

 

Supplemental InformationWORK SCHEDULE: Ability to work a 37.5-hour work week and ability to work additional hours asworkload demands.
