Starting salary is $25.72/hour but may be negotiable based on experience.

The Airport Safety Coordinator is a mid-level role whose primary function will be to implement and oversee the FBO safety management system (SMS) program. Additional functions include developing and improving the airport’s safety culture through training, recognition, compliance and awareness programs; and inspecting, identifying, and following up on tenant and airport discrepancies.

General Description 

Safety Management Systems:  The Airport Safety Coordinator (ASC) will implement and oversee the FBO safety management system (SMS) program using the four components of SMS: Safety Policy, Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance, and Safety Promotion. Much of this work will be performed using the International Business Aviation Council’s (IBAC) International Standard for Business Aviation Handling (IS-BAH). The ASC will assist with the development and writing of a variety of policies and procedures that integrate with existing FBO, airport operations, security, and construction related activities. This individual will conduct risk assessments, track hazards, maintain data, and submit monthly operations reports.

Additional duties include developing and promoting a safety culture by conducting monthly/quarterly safety meetings, participating in team meetings and submitting recommendations designed to improve overall safety, efficiency, and customer service. The ASC will demonstrate excellent safety behavior and attitude; will follow regulatory practices and rules; will recognize and promote hazard reporting; and will ensure safety procedures are being followed. The ASC will participate in pre- & post-season safety briefings; assist with airport emergency planning; and issue Notice to Air Missions (NOTAMS) as necessary.

Regulatory Compliance: The Airport Safety Coordinator will conduct landside, airside, terminal, and tenant leasehold inspections to ensure compliance with Port Authority policies as well as Federal Aviation Regulations; State and County regulations; Advisory Circulars; Operations Instructions; and SMS best practices. The ASC will assist with the implementation of the airport wildlife hazard management plan; spill prevention control & countermeasures plan; and stormwater pollution prevention plan.  Additional duties include preparing and maintaining reports and records of operations and inspections to determine compliance and effectiveness of existing methods.

Training and Coaching: The Airport Safety Coordinator will provide training on a variety of safety topics to managers, employees and tenants; and solicit feedback to identify and develop new training needs and/or improve upon existing programs.

Tenant Liaison: The Airport Safety Coordinator will assist with the development and enforcement of airport rules and regulations; driving directives; gate procedures; and tenant best practices. Additional duties include initiating and processing hangar and tie-down agreements; maintaining tenant lists (current and hangar waitlists); inspecting tenant leaseholds, hangars, and tie downs for compliance with airport rules and regulations; and documenting and following up on inspection discrepancies.

Emergency Response, Management and Training: This position will respond to emergency situations; accidents; incidents; fuel spills; and will assist with investigation and documentation of events. This may include creating presentations, developing reports, running drills & exercises, and conducting training sessions.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements 

Training and Experience: Must have a minimum of 2 years of airport or aviation experience, and/or SMS experience. A college degree is highly desirable or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. A strong background in FBO operations at a location servicing turbine and piston aircraft is desirable, as is a solid understanding of Safety Management Systems and experience developing or overseeing an SMS. Experience writing technical documents is desirable. Experience with airport movement area driving and airport operations is a plus, as is the possession of a pilot certificate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS), general aviation aircraft; and FBO operations is desirable. Prior NATA Safety 1st experience is a plus. If not currently certified, must complete NATA Safety 1st online training modules and become certified within 8 months of hire. Must successfully complete the Page Field Movement Area Driver Course written and practical tests within 90 days of hire. Must have a working knowledge of G Suite; the ability to learn proprietary software systems; and the ability to use Microsoft products as needed.

Must have the ability to read, understand and interpret documents, federal laws, rules, regulations and established airport policies and procedures. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form, and speak effectively before groups. Although work is performed under the general direction of the Airport Operations Manager, this position requires a high degree of independent action, judgment, and discretion.

Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license is required. Must successfully complete AAAE Airfield Operations ACE Certification within 24 months of hire.

Schedule: This position will work varying shifts including days, nights, weekend, holidays and “on-call” scheduling as necessary.
