John Wayne Airport (JWA), owned and operated by the County of Orange California, is a medium-hub, commercial service airport. JWA has an annual budget of approximately $280 Million per year and a staff of approximately 100. JWA is one of the top 50 busiest commercial airports in the country in terms of both passenger enplanements and total operations and the 9th busiest General Aviation airport.
JWA operates as an enterprise fund self-supported through revenues it generates and receives no monies from the County General Fund. These revenues are utilized to operate the Airport, provide for the repayment of revenue bonds, fund facility capital improvements, and maintenance projects, and support aviation planning. It is a modern, 20-gate, medium hub commercial and general aviation airport located in a vibrant and economically viable area of Southern California. JWA is home to seven (7) commercial airlines, two (2) commuter operators, two (2) all-cargo carriers, two (2) full-service FBOs, and over 440 general aviation aircraft.
THE OPERATIONS DIVISION
The Airport Operations Division consists of 31 full-time employees. The Deputy Airport Director for Operations is responsible for oversight of two major service contracts comprised of the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) program with 18 full-time members and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Airport Police Services (APS) Division consisting of 77 full-time members. The Division also oversees a Janitorial Service contract with approximately 100 staff and a contracted parking management firm that employs over 100 staff. This parking management firm is charged with managing public and employee parking operations and providing related shuttle services, Finally, a private security contractor employs approximately 100 armed and unarmed uniformed security officers serving JWA in various capacities.
Major functional responsibilities of the Division are Airside and Landside Operations, Airport Certification and Emergency Planning (FAA regulatory compliance), Airport Security and ID/Access Control (TSA regulatory compliance), Airport Contract Operational Oversight, AVI Administration, Tenant/Public Relations, and Safety.
John Wayne Airport is recruiting for an experienced Deputy Airport Director of Operations (Administrative Manager III).
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in the following:
Six or more years of managerial/administrative/analytical experience in performing duties related to the responsibilities and competencies of this position.
At least five years of recent Airport operations experience at a Class I Part 139 Airport.
Adept at leading a multi-disciplinary team in a diverse business environment. He or she will develop a team that is willing to take on the challenges of innovation and change while building skills and capabilities in or to move the airport to the best in the medium hub category.
Providing strategic leadership in planning, organizing, and executing of critical responsibilities in Operations.
