ATL Sustainability Project Planner

General Description and Classification Standards

This is a planner/ project management position for someone with 3 years of experience. It is in the Sustainability Division in the Department of Aviation (DOA). This role will be an integral part of supporting the Airport’s sustainability programs and contributing to the implementation of the Sustainable Management Plan (SMP) initiatives by coordinating with other divisions, project managing initiatives and assisting with internal and external stakeholder communications and engagement.

Supervision Received

Works under very general supervision. Depending on organization structure, may work independently with

responsibility for an assigned function or program.  The position reports to the Director of Sustainability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  May perform other duties as assigned.

This position will assist in the development, coordination and administration of programs and projects in areas such as water and energy efficiency, watershed management and green infrastructure, sustainable procurement, waste management, climate impact, and other resource management strategies as they occur.

The role will be responsible for keeping up to date on environmental and sustainability issues, conduct studies and prepare reports recommending appropriate courses of action and strategies in support of the goals and objectives of the Sustainability Division and the airport.

Research and communicate emerging information and trends relating to global sustainability initiatives such as environmental and carbon legislation, renewable and efficiency incentives, and reporting programs. Then, use this information to Identify best practices in specific program or service areas and provide reports, summaries, analyses and recommendations to support recommendations.

Support the development sustainability strategies and the analysis and benchmarking of performance to support organizational goals and implementation planning.

Measure and monitor progress against sustainability strategies, objectives and performance targets, provide timely reporting of progress and recommendations to address any performance variances.

Coordinate multi-disciplinary, or multi-workstream projects spanning various aspects of sustainability platform in a collaborative and effective manner.

Contribute to the development of training resources for both internal and external stakeholders and disseminate written policies and procedures related to sustainability objectives.

Collaborate with departments to develop a coordinated sustainability plan.
Formulate action plans with defined objectives, targets and responsibilities to achieve agreed-upon sustainability milestones and goals.

Provide project administration and procurement support.

Assist with waste manage compliance audits and reporting.

The DOA Sustainability Division manages and guides the airport’s Sustainable Management Plan. Coordinates sustainability studies and provides project management for sustainability initiatives. Participates in project meetings with Planning and Development to ensure adoption of sustainability goals. Implements projects to achieve specific sustainability goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Bachelors degree in Sustainability, Facility Management, Architecture, Engineering, Building Construction, Aviation Management or related degree (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).

3 years’ of experience in sustainability, facilities management or related field.

Preferred Education & Experience

One or more of the following certifications are preferred:

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Associate or Accredited Professional (LEED GA or AP)
WELL
TRUE
BREEAM
National Green Infrastructure Certification Program (NGICP)
Project Management Professional (PMP)
Excellent project management, analytical and organizational skills.
Able to manage different projects concurrently; deliver effective and consistent implementation.
Strong inter-personal skills and a good team player with a mature outlook who is also able to work independently.
Able to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to create effective and new ways of working.
Excellent communication and writing skills enabling a clear presentation of issues and solutions.
Ability to deal with a variety of job assignments utilizing excellent time management skills.
Experience of working in business with an appreciation of the role that responsible business practices can play in creating positive social impact.
Proven ability to deliver projects from inception to evaluation, measuring and reporting.
Working knowledge of waste management, energy efficiency, renewable energy systems, LEED certification programs, water quality and management.
