The Airport Principal Planner aids the Senior Planning Coordinator by performing advanced technical work on complex planning problems at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.  Work involves extensive contact with community groups and other agencies.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Developing planning programs including the development and management of a $6 billion Capital Improvement Program
Compiling and analyzing planning data; researching and preparing reports and plans to support complex issues
Representing the Airport’s positions on planning policy regulations Presenting plans to appointed and elected officials for review and approval
Managing and administering contracts
Completing state and federal grant applications
Drafts council actions
Drafts requests for qualifications
Perform other related functions

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with one year of relevant work experience or a Master’s degree
Major coursework in planning, aviation management or related field
Experience in the field of aviation and planning, with some experience in project management
Preferred Requirements:

Master’s degree with three years of experience
Bachelor’s degree with five years of experience
Professional certifications such as AAAE ACE or CM
Supervisory experience
General Information:

Standard business hours apply, Monday through Friday.  Work required at other times for meetings, special events and emergencies/urgent matters. Driver’s license that meets requirements to obtain and maintain a City Driving Permit. Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

 

Salary Range:
$73,525 – $81,694
The Aviation Department typically hires at a minimum rate. However, exceptions may be considered based on qualifications.
