The Broward County Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and the North Perry Airport (HWO) is seeking a Licensed Engineer to join the Capital Improvement Section of the Airport Development Division.  This position is responsible for the management of engineering design and construction, the development of engineering assessments, reports, reviews and studies as needed by the Aviation Department.  The incumbent will supervise landside and airside construction projects and lead long-range multi-disciplinary studies that require coordination and approval from agencies such as FDOT and FAA.  Knowledge of pavement engineering and familiarity with FDOT, FAA Advisory Circulars, and Federal Regulations are paramount for this position.  Other duties include the supervision of staff, consultants and other vendors to achieve the objectives of the Airport Development Division.  This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced challenging airport environment.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in civil engineering or field of specialization appropriate to area of assignment; four (4) years progressively responsible experience in professional engineering work appropriate to the area of assignment including six (6) months of lead work or supervisory experience.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida is required.


Valid Florida Driver’s License required.



Masters’ Degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Geotechnical) or in Construction Management

Airport Engineering Experience/Airfield pavement and infrastructure experience with FAA design criteria

Experience using Prolog and Primavera Scheduling Software

Airport Operations Area ramp driving training

Passed an Airport Security Clearance/Background check

Experience in negotiating design and construction contracts
