Associate Counsel or Deputy General Counsel

Airports Council International – North America (“ACI-NA”) is seeking to fill the position of Associate
Counsel or Deputy General Counsel based in Washington, DC. Salary range is $120,000 – $175,000,
and compensation includes excellent group benefits. Title and pay will be dependent on the successful
applicant’s knowledge and experience.

To be considered, a candidate must be admitted to the D.C. Bar or have the ability to waive-in, and must
have good academic credentials, clear oral and written communication skills, a demonstrable interest in
aviation or airport law and policy, and at least 3 years’ (for Associate Counsel) or 7 years’ (for Deputy
General Counsel) experience in the practice of law. Knowledge of airport law or trade association
matters, or transferable skills, is a plus.

Responsibilities and Functions
Based on the level of the successful candidate’s knowledge and experience, assist ACI-NA’s General
Counsel in some or all of the following duties:

 advising ACI-NA, the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, the President, and staff on
airport and organizational legal matters;
 supporting the work of the various Board committees, and keeping accurate records and minutes of
all Board of Directors meetings;
 supporting the work of ACI-NA educational and relief foundations;
 handling of ACI-NA legal matters and managing the work of specialized outside counsel;
 supporting ACI-NA’s administrative and business departments in Washington and Ottawa, including
handling HR matters, and drafting and reviewing external contracts (e.g., with service providers,
hotels, and event venues) and internal administrative policies;
 working with ACI-NA’s Government and Political Affairs team, reviewing and drafting legislative
text, and providing lobbying support;
 managing ACI-NA Legal Committee, including planning and supporting Committee and Legal
Steering Group meetings, and organizing ACI-NA legal conferences, workshops, and webinars;
 interacting with ACI-NA members to answer questions regarding airport law and regulatory policy,
and informing ACI-NA members of significant legal decisions, and new laws and regulations
impacting airports;
 interacting with, and providing legal support to, the various ACI-NA committees, task forces, and
working groups;
 representing ACI-NA members’ interest before the federal courts and federal agencies;
 drafting and reviewing comments to proposed new federal rules, advisory circulars, and policies
affecting airports, seeking and incorporating member input, and forming and coordinating coalitions
for submitting comments;
 managing the drafting of court briefs in support of ACI-NA members regarding significant legal
issues, and working with outside counsel and Legal Committee volunteers to edit briefs;
 representing ACI-NA before other organizations such as American Bar Association Air & Space
Law Forum, Federal Bar Association Transportation and Transportation Security Section,
Transportation Research Board Airport Cooperative Research Program, etc.; and
 performing other appropriate duties and functions as assigned based on experience or interest, or as
may be required.
